The prices of steel fluctuate with time and may change with rise and fall in the industry. Steel is used for many more purposes than just construction and is available in many forms.

Steel Building Taxes and Deductions

The Federal Energy Policy Act of 2005 allows for a tax deduction of $1.80 per square foot on energy efficient buildings in United States. The steel buildings that are well insulated are liable for a tax deduction for their commercial building according to the policy. The deduction can be claimed by the owner of the building. However, the tenant of the steel building can also claim the deduction if they hold some part of construction expenditure in the metal building. The lighting and energy saving system that you install in your building should save on building’s energy and power cost upto 50% or more.

A recent ban on metal buildings was imposed by a County Planning Commission (although taken back now…wisely). The all-out metal ban proposed by the county in question did spark off many a debate within the construction industry. Many constructors and businessmen confronted the idea and rightly criticized it. Hence we ask as well – Is banning metal or steel in construction really the answer to promote use of quality material use in buildings?

Steel buildings and metal buildings since their arrival have not only proved to be affordable solutions but have also advanced the scope of construction. Being relatively green, flexible and recyclable, steel or metal has revolutionized the construction industry. Therefore, proposing an all-out ban due to low quality and bland aesthetics of steel buildings is definitely not the answer to what can easily be said to skepticism.

Steel buildings and metal buildings may have certain disadvantages (which can be overcome with technology) but they are definitely not something the construction industry whether residential or commercial can do without.

Alternative to Metal Buildings – Quality Metal Buildings
The only alternative to metal buildings is superior quality metal or steel buildings. Improving upon something not working well with people is granted but completely wiping it out seems absurd. We cannot ignore the advantages and benefits that steel buildings provide. For many industries such as agricultural and low scope commercial enterprises, steel buildings have proved indispensable.

Improving on an area’s architecture is progressive but taking the exclusion principle route isn’t the best way to deal with the problem. The Eiffel tower has showed us how a metal building can bring the change in the world of construction. Letting such potential go out of our hands is perhaps one of the most unusual steps to take.

With construction industry advancing and incorporating many new developments, steel metal buildings cannot be kept out of it. What’s your take on it?

Steel buildings have done it once again! Already known for their eco-friendly qualities and high efficiency, agricultural steel buildings have progressed a step further! Thanks to a new architectural innovation by designer Michael Jantzen, agricultural steel buildings can now be recycled to build energy-efficient and durable steel structures. Know more about the feat at: http://www.greenmuze.com/build/design/1955-recycled-steel-buildings.html

Michael Jantzen has designed the The Eco Shell Multi-Use Building System that can be used as centers, office buildings, clinics, restaurants, retail facilities or even emergency housings. Made of steel the Eco-shell multi-use complex is a highly profitable steel structure guaranteeing utilization of discarded or no-more-in-use agricultural steel structures.

Steel arched buildings have been used for quite sometime now in the Agricultural industry, offering assistance in storage and as other facilities. Agricultural steel farm buildings are perfect for their cost-effectiveness, expandable structure and other advantages.

Recycled Steel Buildings – Progressive Construction
Coming to the end of the year 2009, the Eco Shell Multi-use Building System, sure is one of the best (re)use of steel buildings. Leaving all steel constructors and buildings providers with a lot to be happy about. If you are thinking of restructuring or revamping your agricultural steel building, then going for an Eco Shell is a good option. Being a Multi-use, it can be used as a steel farm building as well.

With such construction techniques making strong inroads into the world of construction, the ecology enthusiasts can breathe a sigh of relief. Sustainable and eco-friendly, recycled steel buildings spell out a positive future both for the planet and the construction industry.

Steel buildings changed the outlook of the United States, way back in 1885 when a ten-story Home Insurance Building was built in Chicago using the steel load-bearing frame. Considered to be the world’s first skyscraper, it represented one-of-its kind of architecture and construction procedure. Ever since, the United States has become home to the tallest of buildings.

Steel Structures all the way!

Presently, Chicago’s Willis Tower tops the list with 1,451 ft of height. Formerly, known as the Sears Tower, it is the highest point in Illinois. The fifth tallest freestanding steel skyscraper in the World, its design used nine steel-unit square tubes in a 3 tube by 3 tube arrangement. Willis tower was the first building to use such a design.

Next, stands at 1,362 ft the Trump International Hotel and Tower with 91 floors. Alternatively known as Trump Tower, the building gets its name from the real estate developer Donald Trump.
Although set to become the world’s tallest structure, the plans got revised after 9/11. The Trump Tower Chicago also got featured in the series Build It Bigger and is always a place of interest for film and television fraternity.

The list goes on till 115 with the least height as 50 ft. These steel metal skyscrapers became possible because of steel that has an ability of long spanning and the list proves the fact. These skyscrapers define the skyline for the country which has tallest of the freestanding buildings.

The construction world in the present scenario is brimming over with prefabricated steel buildings. Steel is being looked upon as one of the better construction materials as opposed to the conventional concrete and masonry. However, one must not ignore a few crucial things about steel because choosing the right material, is as important as design and other structural considerations. All this while, you might have been reading about the advantages of steel. Here, we shall give you a brief about few points that you must know before you choose steel as the construction material for your building.

Stress and Strain: The most essential things to keep in mind while using steel as a construction material are stress and strain. Vulnerable to stress and strain, one must be acquainted with the stress limits of steel, as stress beyond a limit creates permanent deformations. Although steel is strong enough for the purpose, but one should keep in mind the various factory procedures that include actions like cold-forming, welding and machining, that tend to alter the steel’s stress behavior. Stress and strain resistance usually define the steel grades. So, invest in a grade that can resist the various loads.

Strength and Stability: Providing a steel structure with suitable stability is another important concern! Unlike concrete, it is usually the collapse of buckling that poses a threat to the integrity of a steel building. In addition to this, another important thing to be considered by the designers is how to provide a suitable degree of three-dimensional stability to the structure for which, the possible solutions can be rigid-frame action, truss action as with triangulation, with extra bracing elements like guys, struts, X-bracing etc.

Don’t forget, a better steel grade and a stable design makes a good investment for a durable and a long-lasting steel building! What is your take on this? Feel free to send in your feedback.

The global steel industry is finally showing signs of recovery from the colossal global downturn, that rocked the world about an year ago! Speculations are rife that the global steel industry is now on its road to recovery, following the reports announced by the World Steel Association.

According to its reports, the world crude steel output recently witnessed its all time high, following the increased orders that restarted the idled capacity of the steel mills.

It is to be noted that the crude steel production this August was about 106.5 million tonnes contrary to the deplorable figures that rocked the steel industry, the previous year.

Hence, the encouraging figures of the world steel output definitely throw a flood of light on the fact, that the world is finally coming out of the aftermath of its worst downturns ever, that created a havoc in the global economy just a few months back!

Hyundai Steel, one of the prominent steel-makers in South Korea, recently signed eight-year iron ore supply deal with BHP Billiton, the second largest mining company of the world. As per the agreement, BHP Billiton would be delivering 22 million tonnes of iron ore within a time span of 2009-2017.

The deal has probably seen the light of the day after Billiton’s prime competitor, Rio Tinto employed a 33-per cent price cut in its recent annual contract price with Nippon Steel Corp of Japan and, Posco of South Korea, in comparison to the previous year’s price.

The speculations are rife that Billiton has yet not disclosed the price agreed to in the contractual agreement.

Nevertheless, this collaboration is expected to bring about a constructive transformation in the future of steel building construction all through the globe!

Definitely something to look forward to in the future of steel buildings construction.
