Steel Buildings – Condensation can be a problem!

Friday, March 11th, 2011

Condensation in steel buildings is a drawback that is often mistaken for leakage from roofing failure. Excess condensation in metal buildings can lead to odors, mold and mildew growth which can further result into deterioration of building material. It can also decrease the effectiveness of insulation and encourage insect infestations.

Increasing condensation in steel buildings can also lead to corrosion of metal roofing, metal decking and metal fasteners. Condensation problem in steel buildings can be solved by keeping the relative humidity in your building between 30 to 50 percent. With the help of a dehumidifier with a hygrometer, you can set a humidity level for your building. Increased air circulation and ventilation also help to solve the issue of condensation in a metal building.

Steel buildings – The problems and solutions

Steel buildings are the most sought after construction alternative for the construction industry and the builders. The advantages of steel buildings over all other types of construction are inevitable, but yes, these do have their share of low points as well. However, in case of steel metal building there is no problem that does not have a solution.

Never ignore the condensation issue in your steel building considering it something minor. Mold and mildew caused by metal building condensation can cause breathing difficulties and can arouse respiratory problems. As soon as you find growth of condensed moisture in your building, find a solution to get rid of it!

Designer Roofs for Your Steel Homes

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

Steel homes and steel residential buildings are getting more practical and beautiful. There are available many designs and options to choose from when it comes to the roofing of your steel home. The modern metal roofing is aesthetically very fine. These are produced in many different forms and might appear like a slate roof or ceramic tile roof to an on-goer but functionally these are very much like a steel metal roof which is leak proof and does not get damage in adverse weather conditions also.

Steel roofing for steel homes are being produced in some amazing designs. Steel can be easily given any shape and color and therefore a steel roof can also be used with an old traditional steel building design. Steel roof shingles are also available giving your steel home a proper look of a traditional home with slanting roofs made out of overlapping tiles.

Steel metal roofs are also durable with a brick and cement house. Therefore if you are looking to get a new roof for your house you can opt for a steel roof and still maintain the aesthetic look of your house.

Steel Roofs and Ridge Vents

Steel buildings have a disadvantage that they retain heat. In summers a steel building gets very heated up and does not allow the heat to escape. The roof of steel buildings therefore comes with ridge vents which are openings near the top edge of the roof which allows the hot air to escape. The hot air rises up therefore the ridge vents in the roof are very useful in keeping the temperature inside the steel building low.

Dynamic Metal Roofs – Make Steel Buildings more Energy Efficient

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Steel buildings are proving to be economical in every sense of the word. These are not only cost effective but are energy efficient as well. These can still be made more energy efficient with the help of dynamic metal roofs. A recently conducted experiment with metal roofs further corroborated this finding (since these are already saving energy, the potential is being utilized).

Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), supported by Metal Construction Association (MCA is a trade association representing metal building component manufacturers with the mission to promote use of metal in constructions) has successfully conducted and completed the first phase of its multi year research project. With this they proved  that dynamic metal roofs are extremely helpful in saving energy and are hence environment friendly. For further details about the research program, visit:  http://www.metalbuilding.com/article_lookup.html?articleid=240.

What are dynamic metal roofs?

Dynamic metal roofs are the latest innovation in the metal building industry. These roofs are composed of metal panels integrated with PhotoVoltaic laminates and Phase Change Material Heat Sinks. “Although these roofs are made of conventional materials, their assembly is unique” explains Scott Kriner, MCA’s technical director.

Evidence of Energy efficiency

The first phase of the Research project was conducted to evaluate the following two important parameters using two different roofing:

  1. Attic temperature
  2. Attic generated heating/cooling loads.

Dynamic metal roofs when compared to conventional shingle roofs proved to be much better performers. Attic temperature in dynamic roofing was higher than the average in winters and lower than average temperatures in summers when compared to shingle roofs. These roofs reduce absorption of heat during sunny days and transmission of heat during cold days.

On the other hand, these roofs also considerably reduce heating and cooling system loads in respective seasons. Thereby establishing that dynamic roofs save energy use and improve steel buildings’ overall energy efficiency..

Hence, steel buildings fitted with dynamic metal roofing can help you cut down on your electric energy expense. For free quotes for steel buildings, visit:  CitySteelBuildings.com (http://www.citysteelbuildings.com/).

Standing Seam Metal Roofing – What makes them Popular?

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

We are living in an era where anything and everything related to steel buildings becomes the talk of the town. And something that is quite an in- thing these days, is the application of standing seam steel roofs to steel buildings.

Metal roofing is a long term investment that might cost you some extra bucks initially, but is all worth it, given the durability and longevity that they ensure. The most common steel structures to which standing seam metal roofing is preferably applied are commercial and residential establishments.

There are various reasons owing to which standing seam steel roofing is considered a trump investment. Let’s take a peek at some of those:

  • Steel metal roofing can resist severe weather conditions like snow, thunderstorms or anything alike.
  • They are designed to stay invulnerable in case of fire as well. This in turn can reduce insurance rates considerably.
  • One of the most striking benefits of metal roofing is that they are light weight.
  • Standing seam metal steel roofs employ sliding clip system and hence can handle thermal shock.
  • These roofs ensure you 20 yrs of trouble free maintenance. However, a lot depends upon your contract with the manufacturer.
  • They are everything from durable, to long lasting and even climate resistant, whilst being aesthetic as well.

Metal roofs are definitely a profitable  solution and a perfect choice for those who wish to enjoy their steel building endure for the longest time possible.
