Steel Buildings Glossary – Know the Terminology

You have decided to invest in a steel building and are baffled by the confusing terminology that  the builders and constructors use with you. What to do? Just read on to get a quick insight about the various terms used in the steel building construction industry.

Also if you are well updated with recent trends and essential glossary in context of steel structures that you are planning to invest in, it would definitely portray a good impression to the builder. In a way, possibilities of fraud would be minimal. Following are certain terms that will be helpful in ensuring that your steel building investment is going on the right track.

Approval Drawing – It’s a product drawing that is received by the customer from the manufacturer to verify designs and dimensions, sales contract description of materials and the services the company has agreed to furnish.
Building Codes – Published ordinances or regulations established by a recognized building authority. The regulations describe design loads, procedures and construction details for structures.
Certification – It is a written declaration that a specific service that is provided by a manufacturer is in compliance with a stated criteria.
Eave – The line that is along the top of the sidewall of a steel building and is formed by the intersection of roof and wall panels.
Galvanized steel – Steel that is coated with zinc in order to shield it from corrosion.
Masking – It’s the plastic covering on metal panels that is used to protect the pieces during shipment. Post installation, masking should be immediately and carefully removed.
